Formal Wear Etiquette

The following stores will be able to give you specific advice you on the correct clothes to wear to any occasion or invitation. As a brief guide the following tips will help.

Black Tie events

Men are expected to wear a dinner suit or white dinner jacket (tuxedo) and black trousers - but not necessarily a black bow tie. In addition a cummerbund (a wide pleated sash worn around the waist) ought to be worn.

Women at such events may wear a Cocktail dress or an Evening gown.

White Tie events

Men are expected to wear a black evening tail coat and trousers, white waistcoat, white bow tie and a wing collared shirt.

Women ought to wear a full length Evening dress.
